Description

Local historian and farmer Herbert Worsley explains in his book “A Pictorial View of Old Lowton” (1993) that the farm was occupied in the early part of the 20th century by Messrs E & J Howarth, the first farmers in Lowton to have a pedigree herd of Friesian cattle: It is said that the cows were never turned out but fed freshly-mown grass everyday in spring and summer from the flood meadows on the farm. The Howarths were followed by the Grundys and then by the Whittles.

The black and white photograph is from H Worsley's “A Pictorial View of Old Lowton” (1993), and may be contemporary with the book.
