Wheatsheaf Hotel

31, Bridge Street, Hindley

Listed Date: 00/00/0000
Part of Group:
At Risk: No

Description

The Wheatsheaf Hotel, Hindley, was designed by George Heaton, a prominent Wigan architect, and rebuilt in 1892 for the Oldfield Brewery Company. The original inn had become outdated and was left several feet below the raised road level following highway improvements, giving it an awkward and impractical position. Described as being in poor condition, the old building was replaced with a new hotel brought forward to the new building line. Designed by Heaton at an estimated cost of £1,500, the new premises provided more spacious and modern accommodation while presenting a more imposing frontage to the street, reflecting the late Victorian investment in improving brewery-owned public houses.

Possibly demolished in the 1960's or 70's
