A date-stone on no. 437 (right of photographs) reads “B \ A & E \ 1816”.
Herbert Worsley records in his 1986 book “Family Furrows” that the houses were used as a school in the 1870s. This was run by “the Miss Mayhews”, daughters of the landlord at the nearby Traveller's Rest Inn. The black and white photograph shows the Jones family outside what appears then to have been a single dwelling in 1934.
