___________________________________________________________________________

This warehouse may have been built circa 1826 for the Liverpool Union Company and Mr Wood, though a further warehouse was built at Wigan in 1835. The canal basin here was originally built by the Douglas Navigation c1740, and this was used when the canal opened, using the Navigation from Dean Lock, in 1774. The original warehouse, just to the west of this warehouse, dates from this time, and may have been extended in 1803. The Navigation was by-passed in 1780, when he canal from Dean to Wigan was built.
